The Birding Group celebrated New Years Day with an outing at the Courtenay Airpark.
As we enjoyed our few hours in the fresh air, the bird count started to increase to a healthy 31 species:
Canada Geese, a Domestic-Canada Goose cross, Snow Geese, Trumpeter Swans, Great Blue Heron, Mallards, American Wigeons, Bufflehead, Green-winged Teals, Greater Scaup, Common Goldeneyes, gull spp., Belted Kingfisher, Barn Swallow, Bald Eagles, American Crows, Brewer's Blackbirds, Bewick's Wren, Brown Creeper, Bushtits, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Anna's Hummingbird, Dark-eyed Juncos, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Song Sparrows, Golden-crowned Sparrows, White-crowned Sparrows, Fox Sparrows, Spotted Towhees, and a Merlin.
